INVISIBLE ILLNESS ART
"An invisible illness can be mental, physical, or both. There usually aren’t too many outward signs of said illness, which is why the phrase “but you don’t look sick” is both widespread and completely missing the point." (quote)
A lot of the invisible illnesses that I depict or work through with art are ones that are personal to me. Either I am going through these challenges or someone close to me is living them. The most common illnesses I address are endometriosis, fibromyalgia, depression, anxiety, and Alzheimers. Each of these struggles are compounded by the fact that a person on the outside can't generally see the symptoms. There is a battle of inside and outside identity and very real feelings of loneliness or otherness. My art acts as the beginning of a conversation, a journal of experiences, and a way of connecting with others that need to share stories and feel less alone.
